Help rebuild Yolanda-hit communities in Coron, urges Pia Wurtzbach
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach on January 21 flew to Palawan to visit Barangay Malawig in Coron. Wurtzbach also toured the town proper via a motorcade.
Barangay Malawig was one of the areas affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler previously visited the area in 2014, working with Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (Cordaid).
Cordaid has been accepting donations for the rebuild since then and on Thursday, the Miss Universe Foundation and Wurtzbach gave their call for support a boost, linking to the website's donation page via social media.

Wurtzbach's visit is also done in partnership with Cordaid, as well as the National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA)/Caritas Philippines and the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay-Social Action Center (AVT-SAC).
These organizations help implement the Integrated Watershed Management for Climate Resilience in Coastal Communities in Barangay Tagbanwa. Livelihood programs that are "locally appropriate and culturally sensitive" are also developed for the women in the community.
“We at the Catholic Church welcome and support this project, which is particularly focused on empowering women and Indigenous Peoples,” NASSA/Caritas Philippines Executive Secretary Fr. Edwin Gariguez said in a statement to the press.
The project is also supported by the local government of Coron, Palawan. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
