Aside from the Rhett Eala creations showcased by Maxine Medina during the 65th Miss Universe preliminary competition and the National Costume show on Thursday, other gowns by Filipino fashion designers also had their time in the spotlight.

Miss Great Britain Jamie Lee Faulkner wore a Leo Almodal haute couture masterpiece during the preliminary evening gown competition.

Before joining the prestigious international pageant this year, the British beauty queen said that she had already worked with Almodal for the Miss Universe Great Britain pageant.

“He is very talented—he designed my gown for Miss Universe Great Britain. He was introduced by a friend from the Philippines, then I saw his work, and thought ‘I need to have one of his gowns!’ So I travelled over to the Philippines in July, met him in person, did an amazing photoshoot, and I just love his gowns,” she shared in an interview with GMA News Online.

Faulkner added, “He’s a real true professional. He goes the extra mile to help you out in fittings. He was just here with his team the night before prelims because I needed a style alteration—he really is very professional and very talented.”

Meanwhile, Miss Mauritius Kushboo Ramnawaj stunned the crowd during the Parade of Nations with a creation by Filipino fashion designer Kirsten Regalado, who was assisted by four high school students from Bacolod City.

The national costume, which was inspired by the volcanic eruption that created the island, was made of recycled materials, including corrugated cardboard boxes and clear plastic cups.

"The multi-colored costume which showcases the Seven Colored Earth of Chamarel in country of Mauritius consists of three elements: headdress, cape, and three piece gown," Regalado shared in a detailed post about the gown.

She added, "The headdress made of red fabric petals represents the volcanic eruption and also the flora of Mauritius after the volcanic eruption. The detachable cape made of eco-fabric material is hand painted to show the volcano on the outside of the cape and then the volcanic eruption inside (The cape opens up to 114 by 114 inches)."
