Miss France Iris Mittenaere's win breaks a 64-year drought
While the Philippines' victory last year ended a four decade thirst for a win, France broke that record by two full decades.
That's right: They've been waiting since 1953 to win the crown. And in case you didn't know, the Miss Universe pageant was founded in 1952. The French pageant fans (they exist, surely!) have been basically waiting since the pageant's inception to win again.
The first (and until now, only) French beauty queen to win the crown is Christiane Martel.
Iris Mittenaere was crowned on Monday by Pia Wurtzbach at the Mall of Asia Arena, making her title as the second French Miss Universe official.
Mittenaere brought the house down during the National Costume show on January 26 when she came out in full, not to mention authentic, Moulin Rouge dancer regalia.
Mittenaere, 23, was born in Lille, France. She is a Dental Surgery student who loves extreme sports and traveling. —ALG, GMA News
