British Council launches ‘Create Great Cities’ photo competition


A trip to London may be just one great picture away. 

The British Council and the British Embassy in Manila have launched the Create Great Cities Photo Essay Competition, which aims to promote aspects that contribute to a more livable city like efficient mass public transportation and accessible public spaces. 

The competition is open to Filipino citizens of legal age. Only one entry per person is allowed and submissions must contain a series of three (3) to five (5) photos that tell the story of what makes a city great.

Submissions will be accepted until February 16. 

The full mechanics are as follows:

  • The completed application form 
  • A set of photos with a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of five (5) original works depicting aspects of city life or urban development in any part of the world (e.g. street life, community projects, residential exteriors, architectural buildings, influential people in action, etc.).
  • Each photo must have 300 DPI resolution, a minimum width of 1600, saved in JPEG or PNG file formats, and not exceed 2MB (each).
  • Accompanying text in English with no more than 150 words answering the competition questions or telling a story about the entry.
  • All entries must be uploaded via WeTransfer.com and sent to Pierre.Pecson@britishcouncil.org.ph

The following information must be included in the WeTransfer message field: Full name, title of entry, and email address.

The grand prize will be round trip tickets for two (2) from Manila to London courtesy of Etihad Airways. Details of the prizes are available on the British Council's official website.

Shortlisted photo essays will be exhibited at Bonifacio Global City from February 24 to 26 during the three-day Great British Festival celebration.
