Lifelike dolls done by Fil-Am artist Noel Cruz a hit for collectors
California-based Filipino artist Noel Cruz has quickly gained renown online and off because of his lifelike dolls. Cruz, who has been creating dolls as far back as 2012, went viral after he retouched the paint on an Emma Watson Belle doll that the Internet judged harshly.
The Belle doll's transformation made it to BuzzFeed, which in 2013 featured Cruz's other works.
Cruz has done lifelike dolls of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Cher, Selena, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Audrey Hepburn, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe, and more.
"Collectors see these things are works of art," Cruz told GMA News' Pia Arcangel in an interview. "It's like the closest to having a part of that person, a part of that celebrity."
The Belle doll is actually a request from the artists' fans and was put up on E-bay for bidding with a base price of $3,000 (P150,960). Cruz revealed that his dolls have sold for P170,000
Cruz is currently working on a Gaston doll based on the live-action remake's actor, Luke Evans, as a follow-up to the Belle doll. — Aya Tantiangco/RSJ, GMA News
