Exclusion of songs from live-action ‘Mulan’ not final —report

The director of the live-action remake of Disney's "Mulan" this week cleared the air of rumors that there is no singing in the movie.

Speaking with the LA Times, Niki Caro said, "I don’t know where that’s come from. We’ve never talked about songs, and no decision has been made."

Fans sounded the alarm when Caro in an interview with Moviefone on March 17 said that, "Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children."

"No songs right now" is indeed different from "no songs at all" and Caro told LA Times further that nothing is set in stone: "I haven’t even started working on it yet."

Disney president of production Sean Bailey in an interview with Entertainment Weekly echoed this, explaining that the live-action remake is not intended to be a musical, but "nothing is off the table."

Lea Salonga, who provided Mulan's singing voice in the original movie, said that a new movie without song would be exciting.

"So what do I think about the live-action Mulan not having the songs? I think it's pretty cool! Let the film be a different thing altogether!" Salonga wrote on Twitter.

She added, "The original legend of Mulan existed for over 1,000 years without the music. The new film will stand proud and tall without the songs." — AT, GMA News
