Magazine names Pia Wurtzbach one of PHL’s most iconic women
MEGA magazine named Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach one of the Philippines' 25 most iconic women in its 25th anniversary issue.
In a post on Instagram, the beauty queen said literature taught her that the best stories always begin with a captivating start.
"Literature has taught us that every great story is nothing without a compelling beginning," she said. "Whether it is an imposing 'In the beginning' or a more romantic 'Once upon a time,' stories, however it plays out, all start from a seed of an idea, eventually setting the story in motion, exciting readers to no end.
"But when it comes down to it, we will always find ourselves looking back at page one, constantly flipping to the present and maybe eventual future, just to remember where all things began," she added.
In its own post, MEGA said that Wurtzbach "redefined the standards of being a beauty queen."
"With or without a crown, she will always remain the Philippines’ modern day queen," the magazine said.
Wurtzbach said she will be waxing "nostalgic" about her "childhood dream," and her reason for working hard for her goal, which was to be able to support her family.
"I looked up to the women I saw on stage and I told myself, 'One day I'm going to be like them.' It wasn't easy, I had a not-so-stellar career as an actress/model but kept working anyway to support my family," she wrote on Instagram.

Almost everyone is familiar now with Wurtzbach's road to the Miss Universe title, and even though she already passed on her crown to Iris Mittenaere last January, she still continues to inspire women who are striving to reach for their dreams.
"And after three attempts in Bb. Pilipinas I finally got the ticket to represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe stage. Then on that night I saw the stars align in the most surprising way. A dream came true for myself & for the Philippines," Pia wrote on Instagram.
