Winwyn Marquez on having an interpreter during the Q&A: 'I think it's harder'

Newly crowned Reina Hispanoamericana Teresita Ssen "Winwyn" Marquez said that having an interpreter is a disadvantage for the pageant's question and answer portion.

At the press conference and homecoming party of Winwyn at Annabel's restaurant in Quezon City on Monday, she shared her experience on how she answered the question articulately.

"I think having an interpreter is harder. It's harder because when I think, I want it to be fluid. When I have a thought I want to say it na tuloy-tuloy — siyempre 'pag may gusto kang sabihin, gusto mo tuloy-tuloy. But [with] an interpreter, you have to cut your thoughts, and when you cut your thoughts your tendency is you forget what you have to say," she told the press.

Despite thinking that having an interpreter is a downside, she said nothing can stop anyone from saying what they want if they mean it from their heart.

"It was hard but if you really know what you want to say and it comes from the heart and it's from your experience, I don't think anything can stop you from that. 

"Having a translator is not an advantage because sometimes, what you say is also sometimes, 'di naiinterpret nang eksakto. So I think it's a disadvantage to have an interpreter," Wyn explained

When asked if she thinks she could have done better without an interpreter, Marquez said she had no regrets with how she answered.

"I couldn't have done it better; mas okay kung tuloy-tuloy, mas mai-e-express mo nang tama, mas fluid, but I can't complain. The interpreter helped me," she said.

The beauty queen have heard people telling her that her answer wasn't properly elucidated, but she was fortunate to have nine of the judges who are able speak in English.

"Alot of people were telling me na hindi daw masyadong na interpret nang tama, but fortunately nine of them spoke English; they were consuls, deans ng schools ambassadors, so at least naintindihan nila, so I'm very lucky."

Her challenging experience with the language barrier in Bolivia has helped her come up with a well-thought-out answer.

"Naranasan ko sa Bolivia 'yung language barrier, kung paano ka makikipag-communicate, paano ka makikisama. So lahat 'yun pinagdaanan ko sa more than two weeks sa Bolivia. So siguro nung tinanong nasagot ko kasi naranasan ko siya and I wanted to be honest with my answer and thank God lumabas nang tama", she said.

During the Reina Hispanoamericana Q&A last November 4, she was asked: "How would you promote Hispanic Americana culture with language barriers?"

Language can be learned, but the will and determination to contribute something to the organization cannot.

It has to come from the heart and it has to be natural.

I believe that kindness is a universal language. If you treat people with tolerance, patience, and love, you will understand each other.

Hispanic culture is not about language only.

It's about love for God, love for country, love for history and culture, and love for family.

As a Filipina with a unique heritage, I have instilled that.

I am ready to promote the Hispanic culture, not just in Asia, but in the whole world.

It is time to celebrate the Hispanic culture. It is meant to be celebrated.

Her answered has earned her applause from all over the world.

Winwyn is the first Filipina and Asian to join and win the Reina Hispanoamericana in Bolivia.

She will have a homecoming parade in Paranaque City on November 20.
