Pia Wurtzbach addresses bashers blaming her for Rachel Peters' early exit

Philippines bet Rachel Peters fell short in the Miss Universe pageant this week, failing to make it to the top five of the competition.

While Rachel was gracious about the result, some bashers have taken to blaming Pia Wurtzbach for the development. The former Miss Universe titleholder was one of the judges in this year's event, and some netizens are saying it was Pia's fault that Rachel did not make it.

Pia addressed the issue in a video posted on Instagram by @pageantbuzzph.

“I was fair. I was fair to everyone, not just to Miss Philippines, but also the other candidates. And I think that’s why they chose me, because they knew that I was going to be fair and impartial when it comes to judging for choosing the next Miss Universe,” she said.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa was crowned Miss Universe 2017, taking over for France's Iris Mittenaere.

Earlier, Pia had sent out words of encouragement for Rachel:  “Thank you for making us proud. Sitting on the other side, it was so nice to witness a Miss Philippines perform and have the loudest cheer in the crowd. Keep your head up. We’re all so proud of you.” —JST, GMA News
