Olympic weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz was named as one of the honorees of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of 2017, together with a police officer assigned in Cebu and six others.
The Junior Chamber International (JCI) of the Philippines spearheads the annual search for exemplary individuals considered models in their respective fields and worthy of emulation by young Filipinos and the nation in general.

Diaz ended the country's 20-year drought in Olympic medals by taking home a silver medal in the 2016 Olympics held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
She was also recognized for training and being a source of inspiration of young weightlifters.
Diaz had also established a mini gym in Barangay Mampang where young weightlifters can train for free.
Byron Allatog, an awardee for government service and law enforcement, is currently chief of police of Bogo City, Cebu, was commended for taking a "brave" path in leading and managing drug clearing operations in his area.
"This nominee values life, believes people should be given a second chances, respects human rights and exemplifies standard policing in the drug war based on rule of law," the JCI said.
Allatog was cited for, among others, his dismissal from the service after facing Ombudsman cases filed against him and his stint as chief of police under which his station was commended as the "Best Performing Police Station in the ARMM" for two consecutive years both in operations and administrative achievements.
The JCI has organized and presented the TOYM awards with the Gerry Roxas Foundation, Inc. and the TOYM Foundation since 1959. This year's search themed "United in Purpose Towards Nation Building" was co-presented by PLDT.
"We hope this would give an example to every Filipino that excellence is possible for anyone who dares to dream and chooses to serve," TOYM Foundation Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan said.

The other awardees are:
- Arts and music awardee Cirilo Javier, a product of the Conservatory of Music of the University of Santo Tomas, is the current music director of HongKong Disneyland. He is a three-time recipient of the Broadway World Award for Best Musical Direction for his work on productions of "Little Mermaid and "Shrek."
- Eugenio Mende was recognized for his work in the field of veterinary medicine, particularly for the US-patented research on Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus.
- Multi-awarded teacher Ronald Reyes advocates the promotion of the research culture which yields community growth.
- Jason Roy Sibug, is the man behind the national indigenous peoples organization Tuklas Katutubo, which aims to promote rights and welfare of the indigenous community. His humanitarian programs through the group have earned him awards from Malacañang and the ASEAN.
- Mark Anthony Torres awardee for government service education is the Officer-in-Charge of the Institution for Peace and Development in Mindanao at the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology. He was given a plaque of recognition as "Guardian of Peace and Partner in Development" by the 2nd Mechanized Brigade of the Philippine Army in acknowledgement of his efforts to bring the military "closer to the people."
- The JCI also took note of the international recognition garnered by reporter and news anchor Chiara Zambrano, who wrote a documentary on the maritime dispute between he Philippines and China in the Spratlys islands.
