Bb. Pilipinas Best in Swimsuit winners from 2014 to 2018
No matter what anyone says, the crown is on Catriona Gray's head.
Still, friction has erupted between Catriona's fans and beauty queens who are wondering if she deserved the other titles that she won.
Specifically, Binibining Pilipinas World 2007 Maggie Wilson and Miss International 2013 Bea Santiago have said that they disagree with the judges decision to award "Best in Swimsuit" to Catriona.
Bea had taken to Twitter during the night of pageant and was tagging the official Binibining Page to say that "it should not be all about the face."
But who has won the award in the past five years?
Best in Swimsuit is only one of the many special awards in the competition and winning it does not guarantee that you'll get the coveted crown.
In 2010, the beginning of the "golden age" when our queens began placing consistently in Miss Universe, the Best in Swimsuit didn't go to Venus Raj. It was instead given to Krista Eileen Kleinerj, who represented the country in Miss International
The year after that, Shamcey Supsup won Miss Universe Philippines, but the Best in Swimsuit award was given to Queneerich Rehman, who only made it to the Top 15.
In 2012, Nicole Schmitz received the Best in Swimsuit award. She went on to be crowned Miss International Philippines. That was the year Janine Tugonon came close to winning the Miss Universe crown, placing first runner-up to Olivia Cuopo.
Ariella Arida was the first in this era to win Miss Universe Philippines and also receive the Best in Swimsuit award. — Aya Tantiangco, GMA News
