Mike Enriquez makes first public appearance after heart surgery

Veteran news anchor Mike Enriquez on Friday made his first public appearance after undergoing heart bypass surgery last September.

Enriquez hosted GMA Network's Eleksyon 2019 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), academic institutions and other agencies with the aim of delivering the most comprehensive election coverage next year.

Enriquez said he accepted the offer to host the event in order to assure the public that he is in good condition.

"Naisip namin magandang pagkakataon to na mag-public appearance na 'ko para maiparating sa mga tao na okay na 'ko lalo na 'yung mga nagdasal," Enriquez told GMA News Online.

The news anchor said he still has several weeks to rest and recover from the procedure.

"Yes, mga siguro isang buwan pa o several weeks sabi ng doktor... pero sabi ng doktor kung bago lumipas 'yun eh malakas na pakiramdam ko ay bumalik na 'ko, sabi ng mga doktor listen to your body," Enriquez said.

Enriquez also expressed gratitude to his viewers and listeners for praying for his fast recovery.

"Mga Kapuso, sa nagparating po ng mensahe ng pagpapagaling at higit sa lahat sa mga nagdasal, maraming-maraming salamat po at ang maisusukli ko lang po sa inyo ay pagpapalakas ng kalusugan para lalo pa kaming makapaglingkod sa inyo," he said.

It was in August when Enriquez disclosed to the public that he had been on a medical leave due to a couple of ailments. Aside from a heart problem, he has been getting treatment for a kidney disease. — RSJ, GMA News
