What Pinay judge Richelle Singson-Michael is looking for in Miss Universe
An all-female panel served as judges for the Miss Universe preliminary competition, whose duties included interviewing the candidates and rating their performance on the stage.
Two Filipino women, fashion designer Monique Lhuillier and architect Richelle Singson-Michael, joined the lineup of accomplished panelists.
Monique has been mum on social media about her duties, posting only via Instagram stories of her time in Thailand. Richelle, on the other hand, shared her thoughts on who should be the next Miss Universe.
"Miss Universe should be someone confident yet humble, and empowered enough to be able to make positive changes within communities as well as the global scene. She should be able to inspire others and raise awareness for her philanthropic endeavors, conducting everything so very beautifully," Richelle said in a post on Instagram published on Friday.
Richelle said that she doesn't discuss the candidates with other judges and revealed that they don't "cross paths with them (the beauty queens) outside their turn during the competition."
Also on the panel are Liliana Gil Valletta, a Colombian-American businesswoman and entrepreneur; Janaye Ingram, American political organizer and Miss New Jersey USA 2004; Michelle McLean, Miss Universe 1992 from Namibia; Iman Oubou, Moroccan-American scientist, entrepreneur, medical missionary, and former beauty pageant titleholder; and Bui Simon, Miss Universe 1988 from Thailand.
