Miss Australia says Catriona is like ‘any Aussie girl,’ will be ‘amazing’ as Miss Universe

Miss Universe Australia Francesca Hung  shared on Tuesday what Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray was like in person during an interview on Australian talk show The Morning Show.

Hung had supposedly said during an earlier interview that Catriona was the "biggest threat" in the competition because she was half-Australian.

The Australian representative said that Catriona was similar to other girls in their country.

"She's just like any Aussie girl, she grew up in Australia so she has the same values and ideals," she said.

Catriona, who is half-Aussie, half-Pinay, grew up in Australia.

Hung added that Catriona was born for the role and would represent Miss Universe well.

"She was born for this role. She's a well brought up pageant girl," she said.

"So she's going to be an amazing spokesperson for Miss Universe," she added.

Earlier, Australian media outlets had also taken pride over Catriona's win.

A photo of Catriona was printed in the front page of The Courier Mail, and underneath it were the words "Miss Universe Philippines."

However, the paper crossed out the name of the Philippines and wrote in pseudo-handwriting "Queensland."

Radio station Hit meanwhile published on its website an article with the headline: An Australian Girl Just Won Miss Universe But She Wasn’t Miss Australia.”
