Bacolod lass wins Shell National Student Art tilt


Mylene Stephanie Lacson, a senior Bachelor of Fine Arts student of La Consolacion College Bacolod won first prize in the Digital Art Category of the recently concluded 40th Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC). The competition is an annual undertaking of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation which is open to college students who may submit entries in the four categories: oil/acrylic, watercolor, sculpture and digital arts. This annual program of Shell has launched careers of many established and rising Filipino artists among them: Jose Joya, Ang Kiukok, Bencab, Federico Alcuaz, Juvenal Sanso, Danny Dalena, Angel Cacnio, Angelito Antonio, Nestor Vinluan, Junyee, Mario Parial, Norberto Carating, Fred Liongoren, Charito Bitanga and Norma Balleza. Lacson bagged home a total of 50,000.00 cash, a trophy, medals and a plaque of recognition. Together with Lacson are two other finalists from La Consolacion College Bacolod namely Michael John Pama for the Oil Painting Category and Anika Marie Loquite for the Acrylic Painting Category. Mr. Antonio Tejado, Program Head for Fine Arts, acted as their contest adviser. The award was given on November 7, 2007 at the Ayala Museum in Makati City by Mr. Eduardo O. Chua, Shell Chairman and Robert S. Kanapi, Shell VP for Communications. La Consolacion College Bacolod School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Interior Design stands as the only school in Negros Occidental to offer Bachelor of Fine Arts and is proud to have produced notable students and continually earns recognition as one of the best schools for visual arts outside Metro Manila. - Sun.Star
