Honorio Banario shares the adjustments he has to make in married life
Former ONE featherweight world champion Honorio Banario used to have a worry free daily routine. He would get up in the morning, brew coffee, head to the gym for training, go home then rest for the next workout in the afternoon.
But all of that has changed recently after Banario married his longtime girlfriend Jessica. He now has to find balance between being a husband and a professional mixed martial artist, and take everything into consideration with the tasks he performs.
"Now that I'm married, I have to adjust because I now live with my wife. I have to be beside my wife at all times," the Team Lakay star said.
"When I wake up in the morning to train I make sure not to wake her up because she works as a nurse. I have to make sure that I don't wake her up because she has to rest."
Banario and Jessica have been together for eight long years before they finally decided to tie the knot. Jessica has always been a staunch supporter of Banario's career since day one, and the latter is trying to repay it by keeping her on the loop with everything he does.
"When it comes to training, I try to find a balance between that and my family. She understands my situation because that is my job," said Banario.
"I always tell her ahead of time what we are bout to do in training and if we're staying up late. I also take a nap in the afternoon to rest for the evening training. She knows what I'm doing and was ready for it, she understands the sacrifice."
Banario is full of gratitude to his wife for understanding that what he does for a living is out of the ordinary.
Throughout the years it has somehow become the norm for the couple to spend time away from each other, but Banario is planning to rectify that after revealing that he is about to become a father.
"My wife is pregnant. I can't tell for sure but I am thinking that it would be harder when our baby comes out. Truth is, she got used to my being a professional MMA fighter," shared the 29-year-old.
"There were time when we both had to work so we are not together all the time, but we somehow got used to it. I am hoping that when our baby comes we would get to spend more time together."
Banario has been all about learning all his life. Just like his skills in mixed martial arts, he admits that there are still plenty more to learn and improve as a married man. With perseverance and willingness to learn, Banario can already smell the taste of victory in the years to come.
"Honorio Banario is still a white belt when it comes to married life. I am a novice at it and I have lots to learn," Banario admitted.
"In five to ten years though, I can imagine myself being successful in my career and married life. I see myself having three children, who I train in mixed martial arts. As for my wife, I can picture as being happy together." — BAP, GMA News
