Newly-crowned Binibining Pilipinas International 2019 Bea Patricia "Patch" Magtanong joined more than a thousand other Bar passers in taking the lawyers' oath before the justices of the Supreme Court Thursday.

One of the 1,800 passers of the 2018 Bar exams, the University of the Philippines law graduate attended the oath-taking ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

Interviewed after the ceremony, a grateful Magtanong said she was "lucky" to have both won a crown and become a lawyer. At this point, only signing in the Roll of Attorneys separates her from officially being a lawyer.

"They're two of my biggest dreams. I've worked for years and to be a lawyer and I've trained very hard to join the pageant. I'm so lucky that this year dalawa 'yung blessings na binigay sa akin ni God. Hopefully we will go for one more, the 7th crown for Miss International," she told reporters.

Magtanong was named Miss International Philippines at the Binibining Pilipinas pageant over the weekend.

Miss International 2019 will be held in Tokyo, Japan later this year.

Magtanong said her advocacy is one for the rights of prisoners.

"Now that I'm a lawyer, I want to widen it to social justice which I've already said previously. I want to be a voice for the voiceless and I want to speak out for the marginalized sector," she said.

She said she has not yet decided which track to pursue in her career in law, but that she plans to work with the Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation, a foundation she said she was involved with.

"For the time being, the legal profession will have to be put on hold because I want to concentrate on this dream of mine, which is to become a beauty queen," Magtanong said. — BM, GMA News
