Jessica Soho wins Philippine Social Media Week Icon Award

Renowned broadcast journalist Jessica Soho has won the Philippine Social Media Week (PSMW) Icon Award.

In a conferment letter dated July 20, 2019, the PSMW said that Soho is awarded because her and Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho's online presence "is a beacon of engaging journalism, dynamic exchange of thought, as well as inspiring and true public service."

"Across all platforms, you and your show have proven that social media goes beyond mere popular pastime and can be a tool for encompassing, positive community building," the PSMW added.

In a video released on Tuesday, Soho said, "Thank you to the Philippine Social Media Week for giving me this Icon award. I don't really consider myself much of an icon for social media but thank you because this recognition really belongs to the staff of my shows."

"They're the ones who generate a lot of content for social media and they're also the ones who harvest a lot of information from social media and these are storified and included in our news programs as well as our public affair programs," she added.

Organized by My Events International, Social Media Week Awards has been running for eight years in Malaysia, but it debuted in the Philippines just this year.

Among previous awardees in Malaysia were Limkokwing University's brand, creativity and talent development Vice President Dato' Tiffanee Marie Lim  (World's Leader in Web Content and Coverage), Wanderlust & Co's marketing and communications manager Sheryl Oon (Lifestyle), Petron's marketing manager Petron Danny Chen and brand advisor Crystal Loh (Social Media Brand of the Year). —Kaela Malig/LBG/KG, GMA News
