Miss Universe Vietnam 2018 goes barefoot during her final walk
Miss Universe Vietnam 2018 H'Hen Nie went barefoot on her final walk before she turned over her crown to the new queen, Nguy?n Tr?n Khánh Vân.
In the sea of ladies wearing gorgeous gowns, she was clad in the traditional costume of the Ede ethnic group of Vietnam, of which she is a part of.
"Today with bare feet, in traditional costume of the Ede people, I am truly proud to bear the title of Miss Universe Vietnam," she wrote on Instagram.
H'Hen crowned her successor after her two-year reign. She had finished as one of the Top 5 in Miss Universe 2018.
"Two years of a journey #MissUniverseVietnam, there are many memories and now I start a new beginning. I want to use the word 'Thank you.' 'Thank you' to everyone who have accompanied me all the way," she wrote.
H'Hen looked back on her journey saying it has given her "many things" hoping it will do the same to the new queen.
"I hope that new Miss Universe Vietnam @khanhvannguyen25 will feel the crown like I used to. Be strong, confident to receive a new journey, a wonderful journey called the #MissUniverseVietnam family, I will always support you on this journey!"
H'Hen had won the hearts of Pinoys with her life story last year.
Girls from the Ede ethnic group are traditionally expected to marry by the age of 14, but refusing to follow tradition, the Vietnamese beauty queen moved to Ho Chi Minh.
She financed herself to pursue college by working multiple jobs, including being a maid just to make both ends meet.
She was also part of Vietnam's Next Top Model finishing as one of the Top 9.
