Dogs and farm animals abandoned after Taal eruption rescued, taken to shelters
Many farm animals and pets did not survive the aftermath of the Taal volcano's eruption on Sunday.
Luckily, rescuers were able to recover some survivors.
According to Mav Gonzales's report on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho" on Tuesday, several dogs and livestock were rescued from areas evacuated after the eruption.
Groups like the Philippine Animal Welfare Society and Guardians of the Fur have bathed, fed and taken some of the animals to shelters.
Some owners have also gone back to rescue their pets.
However, not all were as lucky.
Abandoned animals seen on the report include puppies, and at least one pregnant dog. Another dog was also found still tied to a leash.
Alert Level 4 remains over the volcano, which means a hazardous eruption is still possible within hours to days.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has clarified that they are currently prioritizing human security and safety.
"Prioritization lang muna ng evacuation, so we put premium talaga sa mga buhay ng tao, at next natin na e-evacuate animals after na tin i-evacuate ang mga tao," OCD Assistant Secretary for Operations Casiano Monilla said.
