Here's how you can help feed 1,000 homeless families in Manila North every week

The De La Salle Philippines is planning to feed over 1,000 homeless families living in the Manila North Cemetery in Caloocan every week amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

The organization launched the campaign "Isang Libo, Kada Uno" to meet this goal, and is inviting all Lasallians and non-Lasallians to donate P1,000 to feed a family of five for a week.

“We are inviting all Lasallians to contribute 1,000 for one week, then pass on the word to a fellow Lasallian, who can also commit to at least 1,000 pesos for next week, and so on,” Brother Armin Luistro FSC said in a statement.

"No one should be hungry. No one should be left alone. Everyone has a role to play,” he added.

According to Luistro, the organization decided to feed the homeless because they are considered one of the most vulnerable sectors during the pandemic. Because they do not have a registered address, they are not viable for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)’s social amelioration program and will not receive cash assistance.

DSWD just recently rolled out funds to give cash assistance to low-income families especially since 1.2 million workers temporarily lost their jobs amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19.

De La Salle Philippines is a network of Lasallians within the Lasallian East Asia District.
