GMA News Online wins 4 trophies at 14th UPLB Gandingan Awards


GMA News Online took home not one, but four Gandingan Awards this year!

Multiple GMA News Online publications were honored on Saturday at the Gandingan 2020: The 14th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multimedia Awards of University of the Philippines-Los Baños.

The winners are based on entries covering October 2018 to September 2019.

With this year’s theme, “Midya: Kakampi ng Bayan Laban Para sa Katarungan,” “Ang Islang Walang Lupa,” written by Howie Severino, won the Most Development Oriented Photograph/Photo Story (Special Citation) award.

Meanwhile, GMA News Online’s “Pasyentiis,” an online production that sheds light on the country’s health system, won the Most Development Oriented Online News award.

This was produced by the GMA News Special Assignments team with GMA News Research. The reports were from Dano Tingcungco, JP Soriano, Oscar Oida, and Raffy Tima, while Kaela Malig and Jannielyn Ann Bigtas produced it for the web.

A Very Long Summer” by Jessica Bartolome and Dona Magsino won the Most Development Oriented Online Feature for shedding light on how El Niño affected the farmers in Morong, Rizal. 

The Most Development Oriented Online Video award, meanwhile, went to “Kinaya ni Mama,” a video series produced by the GMA News and Public Affairs team, which focuses on different mothers who go to extreme lengths to give their children a bright future.

Unlike the previous ceremonies, this year’s awarding was conducted through a live online session to safeguard the different parties involved amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
