‘MAY SCHEDULE AKO EVERY DAY’

Kara David reveals she's an avid fan of ‘Owe My Love’

We're not the only ones hooked by the chemistry and comedy in "Owe My Love."

Kara David shared during an exclusive interview on Saturday that she's a big fan of the romantic comedy series starring Lovi Poe and Benjamin Alves.

It was the only show she diligently watches on the television, so much so that her family knows better than to disturb her when it's on.

"'Yung 'Owe My Love' hindi ko nami-miss. May schedule ako every day. So I jog at 8:30 in the evening. Before 9:30 dapat nakauwi na ako after my workout dahil manonood," the veteran journalist said.

[I don't miss 'Owe My Love.' I have a schedule every day. So I jog at 8:30 in the evening. Before 9:30 I should be home already after my workout so I can watch.]

According to David, she was initially hooked to the series' story since it was a unique concept.

"Kasi 'yung setting ng 'Owe My Love' parang after the pandemic na... Tapos may isang barangay na baon sila sa utang. Nagustuhan ko lang 'yung concept na hindi siya 'yung usual na drama, na comedy na medyo predictable siya. Parang medyo iba 'yung setting," Kara said.

['Owe My Love' is set after the pandemic... And there's a barangay that's deep in debt. I liked the concept since it's not the usual drama, comedy that's kind of predictable. The setting is different.]

David was further hooked when she found out the clever names of the characters and the barangay. For example, she shared, the characters who were asking residents to pay their debt were named "Juna" and "Judith," similar to "due na" and "due date."

"It was like a game for me na parang ang cute, ang clever na na-discover ko 'yung mga Easter eggs," David said. "Ako bilang writer, natutuwa ako na ang creative na naiisip nilang pangalan and even the places. Na-hook ako kasi meaning behind names parang pinag-isipan nang mabuti 'yung pangalan ng mga tao, 'yung characters nila."

[It was like a game for me that was cute and clever as I discovered the Easter eggs. As a writer, I found it amusing that they thought of a creative way to name them and even the places. I was hooked because it was like they thought about the meaning behind the names of the people and characters.]

Later on, David shared that she was amazed by the characters and how they were wonderfully portrayed.

"Nabenta ako sa idea na doctor talaga si Benjamin Alves. Si Lovi Poe kilala ko sa Instagram, alam ko sosyal na sosyal, fashionista. Grabe 'yung transformation niya sa 'Owe My Love.' Ang galing ng portrayal ni Lovi," she said.

[I believed that Benjamin Alves was a real doctor. I know Lovi Poe on Instagram, I know she's a fashion icon. Her transformation in 'Owe My Love' was great. Her portrayal was really good.]

Even though she knew Rocco Nacino and Winwyn Marquez were sweet people in real life, she couldn't help but feel irritated with their characters.

David said, "I fell in love with the characters because they were so real. Totoong totoo 'yung acting. Pakiramdam mo na may barangay na ganoon talaga."

[Their acting was really good. You'd believe that there really was a barangay like that.]

She added, "It started with me just trying to figure out the names, the setting, ganyan. Tas later on I fell in love with the characters kasi ang galing-galing ng casting, galing-galing ng pag-arte ng mga tao. Nabenta nila sa 'kin. Naniwala talaga ako."
