10-year-old bone cancer patient gets inspired by BTS to fight for her life

A 10-year-old girl diagnosed with bone cancer has been inspired by K-pop group BTS to fight for her life.

According to an episode of "Stories of Hope," Jamilla Mae Lazo was diagnosed Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer, three years ago.

The eldest among five children, Jamilla said she wants to fight for her life because she wants to be able to help her younger siblings.

Meanwhile, her mother Ramarie Joy Jamen said she couldn't believe her daughter had to go through this experience at seven years old.

However, she believes that God has plans for Jamilla.

Ramarie said Jamilla's source of happiness is BTS.

"When I first heard their song 'Boy with Luv' I thought they were good so I began to like them," she said in Filipino. "They're good at dancing, they're good at singing, and their videos are beautiful."

"They make me happy when I see them on YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok," she added.

Jamilla said her dream is to become a doctor to help those who are sick and to one day be able to attend BTS' concert.

Ramarie said the worst thing they heard was when they were told that Jamilla wouldn't be treated and the goal is to give her a comfortable quality of life or palliative care.

"I told my daughter, 'Don't leave me,' then she said, 'If I were going to leave you it would have been long ago,'" she said.

Ramarie said that there was one time when Jamilla was at the hospital and BTS Army group "Titas of BTS" sent her some merch.

"That's when I realized the effect of BTS on people, even on children. She was so down and under medication, she couldn't eat properly, but when the merch was sent to her she was so, so happy," Ramarie said.

The Titas of BTS also threw Jamilla a BTS-themed party on her 10th birthday.

Jamilla said her wish is to one day wake up and not be sick anymore.

"I'm asking for a miracle from Him because mommy said to ask for one," she said.

The Army Cavite Fanbase also did a fund-raising for Jamilla.

They are the same group who participated in the preservation of marine wildlife species as they adopted eight whales in Babuyan Marine Corridor in the Philippines.

In a previous "24 Oras Weekend" report, a group of ARMY friends also hiked in Nueva Ecija and planted trees in honor of the seven BTS members, putting 1,500 seedlings into the ground.

Aside from being popular for their songs worldwide, BTS is also known for their charitable and philanthropy efforts which had ripple effects to the Army, BTS' official fan group.
