Anne Rice, 'The Vampire Chronicles' book series author, passes away

Anne Rice, author of "The Vampire Chronicles" book series, has passed away. She was 80 years old.

Her son, Christopher, confirmed the news on Sunday through the author's Facebook page. She died due to complications resulting from a stroke.

"She left us almost 19 years to the day my father, her husband Stan, died. The immensity of our family's grief cannot be overstated," Christopher wrote.

Christopher said in Anne's final hours, he and his aunt Karen couldn't help but look back and "be in awe of her accomplishments and courage."

"Let us take comfort in the shared hope that Anne is now experiencing firsthand the glorious answers to many great spiritual and cosmic questions, the quest for which defined her life and career," he said.

He also took the time to thank those who gave love to Anne and her works, making way for his mother's happiness during her career as a best-selling author.

Anne will be privately interred in their family's mausoleum in New Orleans. Meanwhile, a celebration of her life will be held next year, which will be open to the public, in the same city.

Rest in peace, Anne Rice.
