70-year-old woman who sells food for a living asks for help to get a refrigerator

A 70-year-old woman who sells food for a living is asking for help to get a refrigerator for her small business.

According to a "24 Oras" report Wednesday, Fermina Macallan sold almost all of her things when the COVID-19 pandemic started due to lack of income.

Her daughter found some work in Cavite so their family moved there, but the job would only last for three months. To earn some money, Fermina thought of using her cooking skills from her 13 years of experience as a canteen supervisor.

"Kailangan kong kumilos. Ang gastos ko ngayon unang-una, maintenance (medicine). Pangalawa, itong bahay. 'Yung mga anak ko ang inspirasyon ko. Napakasaya ko nung napagtapos ko sila sa hirap ng buhay," she said.

["I need to do something. My expenses, first of all, are maintenance (medicine). Second, this house. My children are my inspiration. I was really happy when they finished their studies despite how hard life is."]

Her main problem with the food business is having no refrigerator at home, so sometimes her products would get spoiled. At times, she and her daughter would walk a few miles to store their products in their neighbor's fridge.

This is the reason why Fermina reached out to GMA Kapuso Foundation. She is also appealing for donations to help with her medical bills for high blood pressure.

Donations for the "Bisig Bayan" project are accepted through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
