How long does a person's nail grow per month? Kuya Kim answers

Ever wondered how long your nails grow per month?

According to Kuya Kim on Monday's "24 Oras," a person's nails grow 3.47 millimeters in one month. For comparison, it's approximately the same size as a grain of rice.

Nails are made of keratin or dead cells, which do not have nerve endings. This is the reason why we feel nothing, including pain, when we cut them.

In Lanao del Norte, a woman named Jena Aragon hasn't cut her nails for three years. She aims to break the Guinness World Record of having the world's longest nails.

Jena's nails now measure almost seven centimeters. The current titleholder is Ayanna Williams, who got the record after letting her nails grow for up to 24 feet and 0.7 inches.

"Balak ko pang pahabain yung kuko ko (nang) mga 20 years [I plan to grow my nails longer for up to 20 years]," Jena said.
