Child with autoimmune disease recovers, returns to school with GMA Kapuso Foundation’s help

A child who suffered from an autoimmune disease has recovered with GMA Kapuso Foundation’s help.

According to a “24 Oras” report Wednesday, the foundation’s team first met Alfred Anterio of Silvino Lobos, Northern Samar, in 2017. He then had a condition called chronic bullous disease of childhood.

“Common ’to sa mga children five years old below. Ito ay nag-uumpisa bilang mga parang butlig or mga blister,” said dermatologist Dr. Yohann Panis-Luzano.

“It’s autoimmune. Meaning, ang katawan mismo yung nagta-target sa healthy cells natin,” she added.

Because Alfred had blisters and wounds all over his body, he avoided going outdoors and other people. His skin condition also made his classmates scared of him.

With GMA Kapuso Foundation’s help, he received treatment from a dermatologist in Tacloban City.

Today, Alfred is healthy, able to interact with his friends, and has gone back to school.

“Nakakatulong na siya sa gawaing bahay. Minsan, kasama siya sa bukid ng asawa ko,” said his mom Lita. “Masaya na ako.”

She added: “Nagpapasalamat ako na gumaling siya at nandito siya kasama namin kasi noon, akala ko mamamatay na siya.”

GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
