Father carries son across river to bring him to school in Leyte

A father has been walking over two kilometers and crossing a river while carrying his son to bring him to school in Mahaplag, Leyte.

According to “24 Oras” Friday, Junrey Sarabosing carries six-year-old Dave on his back every day as they navigate rushing water and rocky paths on their way to his son’s school.

“Mahirap po talaga kami dito lalo na kung tag-ulan kasi dadaan kami dito sa ilog. Kaya ang ginagawa ko pinapasan ko siya halos araw-araw para lang makapasok siya,” said Junrey.

Junrey also teaches Dave and helps him with his schoolwork to ensure that his son learns well at school.

The father is thankful that his efforts are paying off as Dave has recently received three awards during their moving up ceremony.

“Gusto ko maging pulis kaya nag-aaral ako mabuti,” said the kindergarten student.

Dave’s teacher, Bernadita Ruba, said the student had been excelling at his studies. “Nakitaan ko talaga siya ng iba sa mga kaklase nya. Iyong learning nya parang 7 or 8 years old na na bata, parang grade 2 o grade 3 na.”

In April, Leyte and other parts of the country were badly hit by Tropical Storm Agaton, which affected thousands of families and caused damage to infrastructure, including schools.

To help the affected residents, GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed school supplies, COVID-19 kits, and vitamins to over 2,400 students, including Dave, as part of its Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project.

For those who wish to send their help, GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through several channels. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for details. – RC, GMA News
