Thailand's Anna Sueangam-iam wins Miss Universe 2022 Impact Wave Award

Thailand's Anna Sueangam-iam bagged the Impact Wave Award at the Miss Universe 2022.

During the coronation night in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Miss Universe Organization's owner Anne Jakrajutatip regarded Sueangam-iam as an inspiration.

During the preliminaries, Sueangam-iam wore a dress made of drink cans' pull-tabs as a homage for her dad, who is a garbage collector.

Jakrajutatip also talked about using the Miss Universe platform to promote women empowerment during her speech.

"It's the moment of women to take the lead. Welcome to the new era of the global women's empowerment platform. Welcome to the Miss Universe Organization. From now on it's gonna be run by women, owned by transwomen, for our women," she said.

Through Miss Universe, she added that women should "feel strong enough, good enough, qualified enough, and never be objectified again."

The winner of the 71st Miss Universe will be crowned with Mouawad's "Force for Good" piece by the reigning queen Harnaaz Sandhu.
