What are the symptoms of heat stress in dogs and cats? Kuya Kim has the answers
Even our fur babies can suffer from heat stress this summer, so we have to watch over them while also taking care of ourselves.
According to Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Thursday, dogs and cats have fewer sweat glands than humans, so they can overheat faster.
What's more, high temperature is not the only reason for it. When pets are super active, left inside a room without ventilation, do not drink enough water, or it's too humid, they can suffer from heat stress.
Dr. Jonathan Lugtu, a veterinarian, listed some of the symptoms that fur parents should watch out for: restlessness, panting, drooling, and reddish gums and tongue.
What to do if your pet is experiencing these symptoms? It would be good to give them water and wrap them in a cold towel.
However, it is not advisable to dump them in cold water, as this can cause blood pressure changes.
If symptoms persist, take your fur baby to the nearest veterinarian.
