De La Salle University mourns passing of 'proud graduate' Mike Enriquez

De La Salle University took to social media to mourn the passing of "proud graduate" Mike Enriquez.

Posting a photo of Enriquez, where they called him a "veteran broadcaster, industry leader, and Lasallian," the university highlighted the many positions Enriquez held within and for the community.

"Mike was a proud graduate of De La Salle University (AB-BSC '73). He served as a member of the University Board of Advisors and received the De La Salle Alumni Association Lasallian Achievement Award in 2007," DLSU said.

"He was chairman of the Board of Trustees of La Salle Green Hills, and trustee of De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, and De La Salle Araneta University. He was also a member of the National Mission Council of De La Salle Philippines," it added.

DLSU follows the many tributes that came following Tuesday's news of Enriquez's death. There was the small tribute on the German Moreno Walk of Fame in Quezon City, several social media posts from the likes of Pia Arcangel, Kim Atienza, and several of Enriquez's "24 Oras" colleagues.

Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales, Mike's long-time co-anchors in "24 Oras," became emotional as they reported his death on Tuesday's newscast.

Enriquez, 71, took a medical leave in December 2021 to get a kidney transplant and returned to work in time for the 2022 election coverage.

Aside from "24 Oras," Enriquez also hosted long-time GMA Public Affairs program "Imbestigador" and anchored DZBB's "Super Balita sa Umaga" and "Saksi sa Dobol B."

He also served as President of RGMA Network, Inc. and GMA Network's Senior Vice President and Consultant for Radio Operations.
