Brewing Success: Rising Together for the Future of Coffee

Whether it’s easing into the morning or getting through the day, coffee lends a hand in waking us up and keeping our eyes open. To the coffee farmer, it is the same. It is instrumental into easing them into the mornings even before the sun rises to work the soil and crops, to keep eyes open in looking out for the conditions needed for growth.

The average age of farmers in the Philippines is 57 years old. Farming is no longer attractive to the young as it is not perceived as lucrative. In recognition of the importance of coffee farmers in our daily lives, the NESCAFÉ Kape’t Bisig Music Challenge rallies Filipinos to lend their talents in song and dance and inspire the next generation of Filipino coffee farmers through social media. This program adds another dimension to Nestlé’s commitment to coffee growers through the NESCAFÉ Plan, launched in 2010 with support from the Department of Agriculture, from the early years to educate farmers on agricultural best practices that can help them produce better yield and create a more viable source of income.

Let it grow

As the NESCAFÉ Plan and Kape’t Bisig continue its programs to uplift the lives of Filipino coffee farmers, artists like Ben & Ben, KZ Tandingan, Mimiyuuuh, and more, continue to encourage the public to become part of the movement that helps build awareness on the plight of the coffee industry and the need for a new generation of Filipino coffee farmers.  Educational grants totaling P10 million are distributed among 400 junior and senior university students, each receiving a portion of the overall amount. The recipients are children of coffee farmers from 3 agricultural universities in Mindanao to encourage them to pursue careers in farming.

With the continuous support for coffee farmers and their families, the future of coffee can flourish.
