Ogie Alcasid says he reflects with Regine about growing old in music industry: 'Andito pa rin tayo'

Despite their stature in OPM and the entertainment industry in general, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez openly talk about their careers and growing old in the music industry.

In Ogie's guesting on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Friday, he shared that he and Regine talk everyday about the state of their careers and how they have a lot of realizations.

He also said that he catches Regine watching old videos of herself from the heyday of her youth.

"Sasabihin niya sa akin, 'Tingnan mo, o, ang taas ng boses ko noh, ang galing ko noon noh," said Ogie. "Sasabihin ko, 'Hindi, magaling ka pa rin hanggang ngayon, iba lang ang istilo mo ngayon. Mas may puso ka nang kumanta kasi andito na ko sa buhay mo."

[She would tell me, "Look, my voice was so high, I was so good back then" and I would tell her, "No, you are still great until now, your style is just different. You sing with more heart because I'm now in your life."]

The couple would also acknowledge to each other that there are a lot of new faces now, as well as talented young singers in the industry.

"'Ang dami nang magaling, andami nang bata. Wala na siguro tayo,'" he recalled Regine would say.

"Sabi ko, 'Ano ka ba. Oo, pero hindi naman wala, andito pa rin tayo. Ang mahalaga alam natin kung saan tayo lulugar. Marami nang bagong dadating talaga pero ang maganda, nakukuha mo ang respeto ng mga batang 'yan.'"

["'There are so many talented ones now, there are so many young ones. We're probably no longer (in the scene).' I told her, 'Yes (there are newcomers) but we aren't really gone, we are still here. What's important is we know our place. A lot more will enter the industry but what's beautiful is you earn the respect of the young ones.'"]

Ogie added that Regine feels proud whenever young singers would speak to them. She also loves being involved in the careers of neophyte singers.

"She wants to be part of the lives and the careers of those who are coming kasi naaalala niya noong nagsisimula siya ganiyan din sina Pilita, sina Kuh, sina Pops sa kaniya. Hindi niya nalilimutan 'yun," he said.

["She wants to be part of the lives and the careers of those who are coming because she remembers when she was starting out, Pilita (Corrales), Kuh (Ledesma), and Pops (Fernandez) were the same towards her. She never forgets that."]
