Chester Bennington's son slams Linkin Park for 'erasing' dad's legacy after annoucement of new singer
The son of the late Chester Bennington, former vocalist of Linkin Park, has lashed out at the band following the announcement of its new singer, Emily Armstrong.
Linkin Park made the announcement through a cover story on Billboard, and marked their new era with a live performance on September 5.
Addressing band co-founder Mike Shinoda, Jaime Bennington said that he "quietly erased my father’s life and legacy in real time… during international suicide prevention month."
He also said that Mike restricted their interactions "because you don't like what I have to say."
Emily also received criticism from Jaime, particularly her past ties with the Church of Scientology and convicted rapist Danny Masterson, who was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison last year.
"[You] have refused to acknowledge the impact of hiring someone like Emily without so much as a clarifying statement on the variety of victims that male up your core fan base," Jaime said.
"You have betrayed the trust loaned to you by decades of fans and supporting human beings including myself," he added. "We trusted you to be the bigger, better person. To be the change. Because you promised us that was your intention. Now you're just senile and tone deaf."
The announcement of Emily as the new Linkin Park singer sparked a mix of excitement and criticism from fans.
The backlash prompted Emily to release a statement on Danny Masterson, saying that she has not been in contact with him.
"I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have," she said.
"To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes," she added.
Aside from Emily, Linkin Park also brought in songwriter and new drummer Colin Brittain.
Linkin Park also announced their comeback album “From Zero,” which comes out on Novem
