5 Kapuso schools hit by Carina, Enteng in Rizal being repaired by GMA Kapuso Foundation
Five Kapuso schools in Rizal Province that were damaged by super typhoon Carina and severe tropical storm Enteng in 2024 are being repaired by GMA Kapuso Foundation in time for the upcoming school year.
According to "24 Oras" Monday, among those helping fix the schools is Erwin Gadapan, who first volunteered as a construction worker for GMA Kapuso Foundation's Kapuso school and village in Iligan City in 2012. He has also worked on the foundation's Kapuso Tuloy Para sa Kaunlaran in Camarines Sur in 2017.
Erwin and his fellow volunteers are currently in Rizal to help repair five Kapuso schools in Montalban, Tanay, and Pililla.
"Bukod sa sahod ko, nakakatulong din ako sa ibang tao, lalo sa mga kabataan ngayon na nag-aaral at ginagawa namin 'yung school," he said.
According to Arnel Zantua, supervising engineer of GMA Kapuso Foundation, most of the schools' repairs are nearing completion.
"Sa Virgilio Melendrez, 'yung isang school natin sa Pililla, almost 90 percent, so dito naman sa Malaya since kaka-start lang nung ating contractor, more or less nasa 20 percent pa lang," he estimated.
"'Yung sa Tanay naman, 'yung Domingo Memorial Elementary School, malapit na rin 'yun, mga 70 percent, and then sa Matagbak naman, ganun din, mga nasa 70 percent."
The schools will be ready for the students once the new academic year begins.
