GMA Integrated News' Zay Arguelles joins JournalismAI Skills Lab's inaugural cohort
Zay Arguelles, GMA Integrated News supervising producer for Digital Strategy and Innovation Lab, has been named among the inaugural cohort of JournalismAI Skills Lab.
Arguelles is set to join 19 other journalists worldwide for 12 weeks of live virtual sessions by JournalismAI Skills Lab in collaboration with Google News Initiative.
“She has built her career at the intersection of public interest storytelling, editorial innovation, and strategy development. She oversees and develops digital initiatives, including documentaries, newsletters, podcasts, short-form videos, and AI tools,” JournalismAI wrote of the Kapuso producer.
In 2024, Arguelles joined the inaugural AI Journalism Lab at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York. She is also a Reuters Institute’s Oxford Climate Journalism Network member and an alumnus of WAN-IFRA’s Women in News Leadership Accelerator.
Launched in 2019, JournalismAI aims to inform media organizations “about the opportunities offered by AI-powered technologies and to foster debate about the editorial, ethical, and financial implications of using AI in journalism.”
The JournalismAI Skills Lab is a free, 12-week virtual program designed for professionals to learn how to successfully implement artificial intelligence in their work and adapt the technology within the newsroom. —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA Integrated News
