'Kapangyarihan' by Ben&Ben, SB19 hits no. 1 on iTunes PH song chart

"Kapangyarihan," the collaboration song of Ben&Ben and SB19, hit no. 1 on the iTunes Philippines song chart four years after it was first released.

The song topped the chart on Monday, the day after thousands of Filipinos went out on the streets to express public anger over the alleged corruption on flood control projects.

Ben&Ben performed the song during the Trillion Peso March at the EDSA People Power Monument, one of two major rallies in Metro Manila on Sunday, September 21.

Ahead of the protests, SB19 also shared a 34-second snippet of them singing "Kapangyarihan." In the caption, they wrote, "Ang tao, ang bayan, ang tunay na kapangyarihan."

The song has become an anthem in protests due to its strong message to people in power, reminding them of their duty to serve the public. 

"Kapangyarihan" was among the tracks of Ben&Ben's Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno album released in 2021. It was also used as the opening song of GMA Prime series "Pulang Araw," which was set during the Japanese occupation period. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA Integrated News
