8,000 individuals affected by Cebu earthquake receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
A total of 8,000 individuals in Cebu who were affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked Bogo City on September 30 have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project.
According to "24 Oras" Monday, Myna Villegas and her family were among those who were affected by the earthquake, which left one of her siblings wounded.
"Pagbagsak ng yero, dun tumama sa ulo niya t'as nabutas agad. Dun kami lumabas t'as paghila sa 'min hinila kami na parang nakaipit 'yung paa ko," she recounted.
Myna and her family are currently staying at her uncle's residence, but have resorted to sleeping outdoors due to fear of aftershocks.
"Mahirap siya tanggapin pero nagpapasalamat kami na ito lang ang naranasan namin, ito lang ang nangyari sa 'min. Maliit lang ang mga gasgas namin," she said.
GMA Kapuso Foundation headed to Medellin, Cebu, to provide aid to the affected residents, and also paid a visit to Myna and her siblings to bring them food packs, drinking water, and a tent for temporary shelter.
"Nagpapasalamat po sa malaking tulong na ibinigay niyo sa amin. Sa ngayon po may matutulugan na kami na mas safe para sa aming pamilya," said Myna.
The foundation also headed to the municipality of San Remigio, where they distributed food packs, drinking water, and bread to the residents.
A total of 8,000 individuals have benefitted from Operation Bayanihan's first wave of relief operations. Preparations for the second wave of relief operations are now underway.
On Tuesday, more aid will be distributed to 3,000 families in Tabuelan, Borbon, Tuburan, and Sogod, Cebu.
