Will Ashley sings his heart out in sold-out debut concert

Will Ashley sings his heart out in sold-out debut concert

Will Ashley is known for his acting in his 12 years in showbiz, but he proved on Saturday that he is a total package performer who also belongs on the concert stage.

The Sparkle star sold out the New Frontier Theatre on his first-ever concert, where he showed his love for dancing, his admiration for OPM, and the child-like charm that endeared him to “Pinoy Big Brother” fans while he was still inside Bahay ni Kuya.

The show lasted over two and a half hours with several production numbers and guests, but Will shone the brightest with just a mic in his hand, singing from his heart. He wasn’t just carrying a tune: he could belt high notes and make adlibs, pouring his emotions the same as he would in acting out a drama scene. The mic was without a doubt on, and this concert should get fans excited for his upcoming album.

Will’s set list was filled with songs significant to him personally: Kamikazee’s “Narda” that he repeatedly sang growing up, “Kahel Na Langit” by his close friend Maki, “Buwan” by Juan Karlos that he previously sang with his PBB duo Ralph De Leon, “Mundo” by IV of Spades that he covered on YouTube as a teenager, “Salamat” by Yeng Constantino to express his gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his career.

If you missed the concert or simply wish to relive the show, here are more highlights that made the fans cheer so hard for the Nation’s Son.

1. Kaldag King

It’s no surprise that Kaldag King of the PBB collab would include his signature move in the dance productions of his debut concert.

Will showcased his smooth moves while grooving to “My Thang (Go Getta II)” and gave his fans a treat with his iconic hip thrusts.

2. Alden Richards as surprise guest

Will has mentioned several times that Alden Richards is his idol, and the two shared the stage together when the Asia’s Multimedia Star appeared as a surprise guest on the concert.

After the two talented actors sang “Magasin” by Eraserheads, Alden told Will that he reminded him of himself when he was younger and advised him to inspire other people to do good. He also told fans that they did not make a mistake in supporting Will.

3. Will Ashley as an idol

Some fans have previously remarked that Will is idol-coded, and indeed, he would make a very good all-rounder and ace of an idol group. He is a huge fan of SB19, and he performed their hit song “GENTO” by doing everything himself: dancing, singing, and even rapping!

Speaking of idol groups, Will danced “Soda Pop” by fictional boy group Saja Boys from the hit Netflix film “KPop Demon Hunters.” He was joined by Jay Roncesvalles, the man behind the iconic moves of SB19.

4. Will’s raw vocals

One of the surprising songs in Will’s set list is “Pangako” by Rey Valera. With the OPM classic, Will proved that his vocals are no joke.

Fans sang along with him and cheered as he put his own style on the popular love song.

5. Will duets with Eliza Maturan

OPM artist Eliza Maturan also appeared on Will’s concert as one of his special guests. They performed a duet version of “Ikaw, Ikaw, Ikaw,” which she wrote after getting inspired by Will and Bianca De Vera’s moments in PBB.

Afterwards, she took the stage and serenaded fans with her hit song “Museo.”

6. Emotional tribute for Mommy Mindy

Will has been dubbed Nation’s Son for a reason – he is a loving son to his mother, Mommy Mindy. In his concert, he prepared a tribute song for her: “MAPA,” SB19’s anthem for parents.

He could not help but become emotional during his performance, going down the stage to fetch his beloved mother from her seat. When they returned on stage, both Will and Mommy Mindy were in tears as the actor tried to finish the song.

7. WillCa makes NFT kilig, again

The last time Will Ashley and Bianca De Vera took the NFT stage together, they shared a viral hug that sent fans kilig after witnessing the special moment during the PBB collab Big Night.

Over three months later, the WillCa ship returned to once again bring kilig to fans with a production number of “Rewrite the Stars” from “The Greatest Showman.” Will and Bianca performed an interpretive dance that had fans screaming with their undeniable chemistry.

Afterwards, their adorable banter and impromptu singing of “Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin” and “Sabihin Mo Na” got fans thankful for the generous ayuda.

Will then escorted Bianca to the backstage like a proper gentleman and finished his concert with a bang, ending the show with “Your Idol” from “KPop Demon Hunters.” —JCB, GMA Integrated News
