GMA Network wins big at ALTA Media Icon Awards 2025


GMA Network's programs and personalities were recognized at the 6th ALTA Media Icon Awards (AMIA) in an awarding ceremony on Tuesday at the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) campus in Las Piñas City. 

The Kapuso network won several awards across five categories, namely Television, TV Personalities, Radio, Film, and Podcast. 

GMA Integrated News' flagship newscast "24 Oras" won the Best News Program award, while "24 Oras" news anchor Vicky Morales bagged Best Female News Personality.

Veteran broadcast journalist Emil Sumangil, who is also a news anchor of "24 Oras," took home the Best Public Service Program Host award for his program "Resibo." 

GMA Public Affairs' "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, on the other hand, won Best Magazine Show and was also recognized in the award-giving body's Hall of Fame. 

Award-winning documentary show "I-Witness" also bagged Best Documentary Program. 

Atom Araullo also won Best Documentary Program Host for his documentary program, "The Atom Araullo Specials." 

Meanwhile, "Unang Hirit" and "Wish Ko Lang" took home the Best Morning Show and Best Public Service Program awards. 

Sparkle star Shaira Diaz was also given the best Morning Show Host award for her work in "Unang Hirit." 

"Super Radyo DZBB 594" took home the Best AM Radio Station award, while "Super Radyo DZBB" host Toni Aquino won Best AM Radio Female Personality for ther radio drama program, "SumasaPuso." 

Some Kapuso personalities attended the awarding ceremony on Tuesday, including Emil Sumangil, Toni Aquino, Jay Ortega (Best Promising Male Star for "Pulang Araw"), and Papa Dudut (Best Podcast of the Year for "Barangay Love Stories." 

In Mark Salazar's report on "24 Oras" Tuesday, Sumangil underscored the role of TV and radio as platforms where the public can find the right information.

"Huwag nilang iwaglit sa kanilang sistema, sa kanilang puso't isipan ang telebisyon at radyo. Ito ang wastong pinagkukunan talaga ng impormasyon para hindi sila maligaw at dalhin sila ng kanilang pasya sa wastong buhay," he said. 

Meanwhile, for Aquino, their awards for "Super Radyo DZBB" are a win for AM radio. 

"This is a celebration of the staying power of AM radio. Kasi syempre sa traditional media pa rin, marami ang dinadaanan na proseso bago natin kumpirmahin ang balita on air," she shared.

The ALTA Media Icon Awards, organized by the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, recognizes the best in the media, communications, and creative industries. The AMIA made its return this year following a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 health crisis.
