Neri Naig addresses 'haggard' comments: 'Let's normalize looking real, looking tired, looking human'
Neri Naig took to Instagram to address comments calling her “haggard.”
The actress and entrepreneur said that people have been wondering what happened to her, and saying she looks old.
“The truth is… ang daming nangyare sa akin.. di ba? Hehe! At patuloy pa ring lumalaban sa trauma at depresyon,” Neri said.
Neri said she knows she was "not born pretty," and that this has been an insecurity of hers since childhood.
“Growing up, lagi kong naririnig, ‘Ang pangit mo,’ or ‘Ang hirap mong pagandahin,’” she said. “Kahit nung nag-artista na ako, may mga tao na nagsasabi na nahihirapan raw akong ayusan kasi mukha daw akong probinsyana. Mukhang ukay ukay mga damit ko. And you know what? Totoo naman.”
“My face has freckles, veins, uneven nose ang lips, wala akong pilikmata at kilay, at pale talaga ang face ko. But this is my face. Walang botox, walang filter... only me.”
Before, Neri said the comments would hurt. However, she realized as she grew older, “So what if I’m not pretty? So what if I don’t look like everyone else on TV or social media?”
At 42, Neri said she has learned to love and accept her face, her body, and "this quiet, simple version of me.”
She added that maybe real beauty is the kind that is not always seen, “but felt in how you live, love, and rise again.”
To end her post, Neri wrote a message for the public.
“Let’s normalize seeing women without make-up. Let’s normalize looking real, looking tired, looking human. Because maybe… it’s in our most unfiltered moments that we actually look the most alive,” she said.
In 2024, Neri was arrested for alleged syndicated estafa and violations of the Securities Regulation Code. The court later ordered her release.
In March, the Pasay courts dismissed the charges against Neri.
Neri is married to Parokya Ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda. The couple has three kids: Pia, Miggy, and Cash.
