Tricycle drivers, fish vendors in Rizal affected by fuel price hike receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
The GMA Kapuso Foundation has extended its help to tricycle drivers, fish vendors, and other residents in Cardona, Rizal, who are badly affected by the fuel price hike.
According to “24 Oras” on Friday, tricycle driver Michael Padua now lines up at their TODA terminal and waits for passengers to conserve fuel. As a result, his daily earnings have dropped to P300 to P400, down from P700.
“Minsan po isang oras bago kami masakyan. Tiyaga lang talaga. Ngayon talagang paiyakan kasi kahit na tumaas nang konti ang pamasahe, nadoble po talaga ‘yung gasolina,” he said.
Fish cleaners like Jennifer Pahayay at the fish port are also feeling the impact of rising fuel prices, as fewer fishermen have been going out to sea and there are often no more fish left to clean. As a result, her daily earnings have dropped to around P100 to P200, down from P500.
“Dobleng isipin pa po kung saan kami kukuha ng karagdagang panggastos para kahit papaano merong mailagay sa hapag-kainan,” Jennifer said.
To help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, through its Operation Bayanihan project, distributed food packs to a total of 3,600 individuals in Cardona, Rizal.
“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa GMA Kapuso na kami hindi niyo nakalimutan. Napakalaking bagay po ng tulong na ibinigay niyo sa amin,” Michael said.
Aside from the residents of Cardona, the GMA Kapuso Foundation also extended aid to the vegetable farmers in Mountain Province.
