GMA Network programs, personalities win big at 2026 Gandingan Awards

Several programs and personalities from GMA Network took home trophies from the 2026 Gandingan Awards held on Saturday at the D.L. Umali Hall of the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Leading the winners was "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" (KMJS), which secured multiple recognitions, including Most Development-oriented Public Service Program for its episode “Bagong Umaga ni Aurora,” and Most Development-oriented Investigative Story for “Katakot-takot na Kurakot Part 4.”

Meanwhile, the GMA Public Affairs documentary titled “Broken Roads and Broken Promises,” hosted by Dingdong Dantes, won the Most Development-oriented Documentary.

Episode five of “Sang'gre” was recognized as the Most Development-oriented Drama Program while “Agripreneur” won the Most Development-Oriented Feature Story.

“Saksi” earned the Most Development-oriented News Story for its report on the Philippines’ plastic waste problem and the actions taken by several local government units to address the issue.

Broadcast journalist Raffy Tima was named Best TV Program Host for “Balitanghali.”

Raffy, who accepted the award in person, said he was "deeply honored and truly grateful" for the recognition.

"Espesyal ang parangal na ito dahil habang ipinagdiriwang ng Gandingan Awards ang ika-20 taon nito (This award is special because while the Gandingan Awards is celebrating its 20th year), Balitanghali is also marking its 20th year, a beautiful coincidence, and a meaningful reminder of two decades of public service through journalism," he said.

"I dedicate this award to the countless journalists who continue doing the work silently, often without recognition, but whose courage and commitment keep the public informed every day," he added.

“DigiDokyu" took home the award for Most Development-oriented Science and Technology Program for its episode “Rice is Life – Solutions from Filipino Farmers,” which highlighted innovations in agriculture from local farmers. The episode was supported by Internews' Earth Journalism Network grant.

In a video message, Dingdong expressed his gratitude for the recognition given to his documentary, describing it as a reflection of the everyday realities faced by many Filipinos.

“‘Yung mga kwento nagpapakita ng mga sirang kalsada, yung mga kulang na serbisyo at napako ng mga pangako, eh hindi po yan aksidente. Kundi bunga ng matagal ng suliranin ng korapsyon, kaya nananatiling broken,” he said.

(The stories that show damaged roads, the lack of services, and broken promises are not accidents. They are the result of the long-standing problem of corruption, which is why it remains broken.)

Dingdong emphasized that the recognition serves as a reminder that journalism and storytelling rooted in truth, empathy, and purpose remain vital in society. He also highlighted the role of documentary work as a form of public service, especially when it gives voice to marginalized communities.

He extended his appreciation to the individuals and communities who shared their experiences for the documentary, acknowledging their courage in allowing their stories to be told. He likewise thanked the production team for committing to the project despite its challenges.

Addressing students and future media practitioners in attendance, Dingdong encouraged them to use their platforms not only to inform but also to uplift audiences, challenge prevailing issues, and inspire action.

“Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagkikwento, kundi sa pagtiyak na may patutunguhan ang bawat kwento,” he said.

(It's not just about telling stories, but about making sure every story has a purpose.)

Now on its 20th year, the Gandingan Awards continues to recognize media practitioners and programs that promote development journalism, emphasizing stories that inspire solutions, empower communities, and drive social change. — VBL, GMA News
