A total of 2,000 individuals in General Santos City, SOCCSKARGEN, who were affected by the magnitude 7.8 offshore Sarangani earthquake in June received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Monday, affected residents received food packs, hygiene, kits, and ready-to-eat chicken through the foundation's Operation Bayanihan project, in partnership with the Universal Guardians Brotherhood (UGB).

Among the beneficiaries of the project are Cheche Maling and her family, who have been living in a temporary shelter since the quake hit.

"Hindi na kami pwede bumalik doon kasi critical area 'yung lugar namin," said Cheche Maling, a resident. "Sobrang naawa ako sa sitwasyon namin, hirap na hirap talaga kami kahit may trapal, may tent kami, pero kung umuulan basa talaga 'yung mga kasama namin."

Per the report, Maling has not been able to go back to working in the fields after the earthquake, and still

For the second wave of its Operation Bayanihan project, the GMA Kapuso Foundation headed to Barangay San Jose in General Santos City, where it distributed aid to a total of 2,000 residents.

The foundation also distributed warm porridge and tents to the beneficiaries.

"Nandito tayo sa isang mountainous barangay. Nandito rin 'yung mga indigenous people. Tayo ay tutulong sa lubos ng ating makakaya," said GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP and COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog.

"'Yung GMA Kapuso talagang tumutulong sa mga komunidad, that's why nandiyan kami para suportahan lahat ng ginagawa nila," UGB National President Bong Contapay also said.

According to "24 Oras," a landslide recently occurred in Malapatan and Glan, Sarangani, which caused the collapse of a bridge that hindered the foundation from delivering school supplies to beneficiaries in the area.

The foundation will thus hold a third wave of its Operation Bayanihan project at the end of the month to reach those affected by the earthquake and habagat in SOCCSKARGEN.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, Shopee, and Palawan Pay. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
