Magnitude 4.9 earthquake jolted Balangiga, Eastern Samar

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit off the shore southwest of Balangiga, Eastern Samar early Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

PHIVOLCs earlier reported the earthquake at magnitude 5.0.

The earthquake, which occurred at 12:46 a.m. was tectonic in origin and with a depth of 91 kilometers.
