60k students across PH receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation

The GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed brand-new school supplies to 60,000 Kindergarten to Grade 3 students across the Philippines.

According to “24 Oras” on Friday, among the beneficiaries is Nestor Bautista, a nipa farmer from Pamplona, Cagayan, who supports his family by producing nipa-based products.

However, his livelihood was severely affected after Typhoon Marce damaged his crops in 2024, making it more difficult to provide for his children's school needs.

"The nipa were hit by the storm, that’s why nipa products and vinegar are expensive here," he said in Filipino.

In Barangay Mudan, Glan, Sarangani, Christine Joy Mier also struggled to replace her children's school supplies after their home was devastated by flooding in July.

"It’s heartbreaking for us because nothing is left of what we worked so hard for," she said in Filipino.

In recognition of the sacrifices of parents, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed school supplies nationwide through its Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan project ahead of the start of the school year.

The foundation also reached remote schools in Glan, Sarangani, to donate school supplies a month after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8.

“And so we are happy of the school supplies being given by the GMA Kapuso,” Sarangani district supervisor Felix Bareñan Jr said.
