GMA Kapuso Foundation, together with Nitori Philippines, distributed material donations to 1,000 families in Malapatan, Sarangani, who were affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in June, as well as flooding and landslides.

According to a "24 Oras" report, the Sarangani Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has recorded 1,110 totally damaged houses and 9,558 partially damaged houses in the area due to the earthquake.

“Eighty percent ng totally damaged hindi na pwede ibalik doon sa mga sitios because ‘yung mga lupa is wasak na,” Malapatan Mayor Salway Sumbo Jr. said.

“’Yung kisame namin, bumagsak siya. May mga parte sa bahay ko na nag-crack,” resident Muslima Lasad said.

Per the report, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, under its Operation Bayanihan project, has started distributing material donations from Nitori Philippines to 1,000 families with partially damaged houses in Malapatan. The beneficiaries received brand-new beddings, comforters, blankets, and clothing.

“We would like to thank Nitori Holdings in Japan and in the Philippines for their generous donation,” GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP and COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog said. “Sama-sama po, sana matulungan natin ang mga earthquake victims ng SOCCSKARGEN."

Congee with egg from Jollibee and bottled water were also served to 500 individuals, most of whom were children and senior citizens.

The foundation continues to provide aid to residents affected by the earthquake through the third wave of its relief operations.
