Woman wishing for grandchildren gives birth to surprise baby at 45

A 45-year-old mom received an unexpected blessing after she became pregnant with a third baby over two decades since she last gave birth.

In Katrina Son's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Heidi Espiritu-Dimacali said she would tease her two grown daughters about entering relationships so she can have a grandchild.

Her eldest is a 26-year-old aeronautical engineer while her youngest is a 22-year-old dentistry student.

"When they saw I had an ultrasound, they were shocked," Heidi said in Filipino.

Heidi had a high-risk pregnancy due to her age. When she was in her 34th week, she felt stomach pains and thought she would already give birth. It was preterm labor and led to severe sepsis.

However, the baby was eventually saved and was born after 38 weeks.

Heidi said her daughters don't mind their two-decade age gap with the newest addition to their family.

"We're happier now because they enjoy their brother. They are always excited to come home especially when they aren't able to," she said. "They scramble over who gets to him carry first, who gets to take care of him first." —Nika Roque/MGP, GMA News
