The beauty queens from Spain are waving the rainbow flag with great pride.

Over the weekend, Miss Universe Spain 2017 Sofia del Prado confirmed via Instagram her relationship with Laura Nicholls.

Praising Laura for being the perfect date for a friend's wedding, Sofia wrote, "Gracias por ser tú y estar a mi lado." (Thanks for being you and being by my side.)

Laura, who has been playing for Spain's national basketball team since 2008, also posted a photo which sealed the announcement with a kiss.

"Algunos lo sabéis ya pero al resto... algún día llegará alguien que os dará la vuelta a la vida entera y encontraréis 1000 y una nuevas formas de ser feliz!" Laura wrote. (Some of you already know, but to the rest ... someday someone will come who will turn you over your whole life and you will find 1000 and a new way of being happy!)

The pair's open declaration of their lesbian relationship made headlines in several entertainment dailies in Spain.

Sofia and Laura have been sharing photos of their blossoming relationship since May, with Sofia declaring that love is love during Pride Month.

Laura in a post from June said, "When I used to say: I will never go to a beauty pageant, when I thought real love would not exist and that your partner would not become your best friend and accomplice, and that I would never enjoy being in the picture.... when I said that #ihadnoideawhatiwassaying."

Sofia, 23, was previously crowned Reina Hispanoamericana in 2015. She was crowned Miss Spain in 2017 and went on to place in the Top 10 of the 66th Miss Universe pageant.

Sofia's successor, Angela Ponce, is also a torch-bearer for the LGBTQ+ community as she is the first trans woman to hold the Miss Universe Spain title. — Aya Tantiangco/LA, GMA News
